Aged Care Principles and Guidelines
-
1. Enable the Person
This Principle is key to providing good access in any environment, from an airport to a dentist clinic, and especially in an aged care environment.
-
2. Cultivate a Home
We all want to live at home, to be in control, have privacy and choice. This Principle is about how we can make this happen through design.
-
3. Access the Outdoors
Access outside is fundamental to health and wellbeing, and is not available, or hard for residents to access independently. Outdoor spaces need to be close by, safe and extremely easy to access in order to be successful.
-
4. Connect with Community
Maintaining social connections throughout our lives is vitally important, and yet often becomes harder as we age.
The design of the building and the wider environment impacts the opportunities that residents have to maintain good community connection and feel valued as citizens.
