jillian hopkins
BArch (hons)
Jillian is passionate about public buildings, community engagement and encouraging creativity in all its forms. Following graduation, Jillian managed design for public projects at the City of Sydney Council, including childcare and community centres. Jillian has also volunteered at a children's library in Guatemala, where she discovered teaching, mural making, puppeteering and the creative spunk of children. This led to her becoming a professional volunteer with Architects Without Frontiers in India, where her small team built two colourful slum preschools with recycled materials and actively engaged the community through murals, mosaic and a women-friendly chai-cup sculpture. Jillian tutors design and construction at university, volunteers with a local Sudanese community and continues to make her own jewellery and art.
